
The Southern Cal School District
The Southern Cal Community School District
covers 230 square miles, including Lake City,
Lanesboro, Yetter, and Lohrville, in a rural west
central Iowa community. The district population is
about 3000. Residential, commercial, industrial,
and agricultural areas are found within the
boundaries of the school district. Southern Cal is
located in Calhoun County and received its name
following the reorganization of the Lake City and
Lohrville School Districts in the 1993-94 school
year.
The enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year is
550 students, with 52 teachers, 3 administrators,
25 full-time and 10 part-time support staff. The
total budget for 2008-2009 will be $6,500,000 with
a tax levy of $12.64 per $1,000 valuation. SILO Tax
(School Infrastructure Local Option) generates
approximately $350,000 yearly.
School facilities include a Preschool-Grade 6
building and a 7-12 building. The middle/high
school is located in Lake City. Southern Cal
Elementary is located in Lohrville, 8 miles east of
Lake City.
